Triaxe is a band unique in their genre. Drawing from the varied styles of 3 lead guitarists, they have crafted a hard-hitting setlist that is both rich in melody and scorching technique-wise. Running the gamut from molten metal to pure classical guitar, you’re sure to love their tasty brand of shred if you’re into any sort of instrumental rock at all. They were featured on the Seattle KCTS9 TV program PIE in fall of 2013 and have wowed Seattle crowds for 2 years now!
The players are:
Brian Hunsaker – Guitar. Brian took up the electric guitar in 1990 and counts Joe Satriani, Iron Maiden, Steve Vai, George Lynch and Dio as his biggest influences. Over the years, he has played in many bands, including Ultimate Sky, Sunny Sinister and Beat Yourself Blind. In 2007, Brian formed the prominent Ronnie James Dio tribute band “Stand Up & Shout” in Seattle with Sergio. Then in 2009, he lived abroad in China for 2 years, where he wrote and recorded several songs for his first album. Returning to Seattle in late 2011, Brian put the finishing touches on his breakout album, to his own highly demanding standards.
Finally, in March 2012, Brian’s self-produced album “Across the Galaxy” was released and garnered rave reviews from a slew of online and print magazines, earning praise for his excellent songwriting, melodies, harmonies, production values and meticulous technique – a rare combo in the shred genre. He also played on (and helped produce) the 2 Northwest Shred Fest compilation CD’s, which is how George and Brian first met.
George Varghese – Guitar. George’s playing is inspired by such legends like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Pertrucci, Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Steve Lukather and Ritchie Sambora. Originally hailing from Bangalore, India where he first picked up the guitar back in 1989, George performed with bands including the Crystals, Crossroads, and Antaragni. Some highlights of his musical experiences in India were with his band Mixed Fruit Jam, performing concerts all across India between 1998 and 2003. He has performed on national television, recorded the soundtrack for the movie “20 Plus” and even opened for Bryan Adams to an audience of over 28,000 fans. He was awarded the best lead guitar player in various states across India and his proudest moment was when he launched his debut album “Out of the Dark” in 2001.
After migrating to the United States in 2003, he has continued to write and record new guitar instrumental music, and was featured on the Northwest Shred Fest album series. George has performed with rock bands soundXchange, ScottyP and the Ozone, MEM3NTO and MayDay. His latest endeavor is finishing up his forthcoming second album and he aspires to redefine guitar instrumental rock in the process!
Sergio Ortego – Guitar. Born in Mexico, Sergio has picked up on influences from Latin pop and rock as well as modern American and European metal. Music has always been present in his life no matter where in the world he’s found himself in. He began playing guitar at age 16 after being gifted the guitar he had wanted for several years and hasn’t stopped since. Sergio’s initial guitar influences were initially much heavier and darker than his current tastes, including bands such as Slipknot, Tool, Slayer, Mudvayne, In Flames, and Dimmu Borgir. Inevitably, music of a more technical nature began influencing him, and the likes of Rhandy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Alexi Laiho, and Kiko Loureiro began to show in his playing.
At the age of 20, Sergio met fellow virtuoso Brian Hunsaker, and they formed the Ronnie James Dio tribute band “Stand Up and Shout” which played for several years all around the Seattle area. Following a series of life events, including Brian’s departure to China, music in the world of Sergio began to “mellow down.” Coming from the heaviness of the metal master Dio, influences from the more gentle side of Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore, Marty Friedman, and John Mayer (yes…John Mayer), began to shape his style and sound.
With the formation of Triaxe, Sergio has once again joined forces with Brian and is now accompanied by equally talented musicians all around – George Varghese, Gus Apostol, and Jay McAllaster. Sergio is showcasing his guitar shredding roots with skills more technical and prevalent than ever before!
Gus Apostol – Bass. Starting his music career as a classically training pianist. Gus’ passion for film music led to opportunities creating orchestral compositions for the Microsoft Game Studios including Allegiance, Dante’s Inferno, Links Golf, and Mech Warrior. Gus took up playing jazz bass with major influences including Jaco Pastorius, Christian McBride and Gary Willis, and later progressive rock influences including Tony Levin and John Myung. Gus co-founded the 80s cover rock band MEM3NTO with lead guitarist George Varghese, rocking the Seattle music scene to many amazed fans!
Jay McAllaster – Drums. Jay is a highly technical drummer from the Pacific Northwest. He Enjoys playing rock, be it hard, heavy, progressive, from the 60’s, 70’s, or beyond. Major influences include Professor Pratt, Captain Bluebeard, Bonzo, and many pioneers of the craft.
Jay’s thoughts on Guitars Under the Stars: “I work. I play. In the back of my mind, I have always dreamed of becoming a rock star, never thought it might actually happen. You know how dreams have a way of working themselves out sometimes? The thought of preparing for this gig is awesome, and at the same time, a bit overwhelming. But we will rock it like no other!”
Come out and see Triaxe at Guitars Under The Stars. They are honored to play the show and will be pulling off another electrifying performance. This is not to be missed by any shred fan!
